Step parents...Do you think it is wrong that if your adult step children visit, that you still want time...?
on your own? I do not get along with my step kids. They are 24 and 25, I tried very hard when they were younger but I have just given up, as far as I am concerned they are adults now and it works both ways. (I only came into their fathers life 8 years after their parents divorced, so I had nothing to do with it.) Of course I cannot prevent them visiting their father but I don't look forward to it. The last time my step daughter came to visit she was looking into our computer files on our financial software to see how much money we had....and right in front of us! She was questioning us over every purchase we have made recently....why did we buy this car (my husband and I have one car), why do we need a sat nav, why do want a bigger apartment (we lived in a one bedroom and wanted to move to a two) etc. It was just a very difficult visit. So I tend to spend the day with them and then go up to my bedroom on my own for a break in the evening. Do you think this is rude? My husband thinks that it is rude and makes them feel unwelcome, what do you think? I think it is perfectly acceptable. I think he should be able to spend time with his kids without me, but I think he doesn't want to admit it to himself that he doesn't particularly enjoy their company either and I act as a 'buffer' or something. Am I just being a wicked step mother? Thank you all. Now I know that there is nothing wrong with me. I sometimes do talking to my husband. I have been honest with him and said to him that I cannot stop them visiting but don't expect me to pretend to enjoy it. Can you believe he still expects me to let my step daughter have the use of my laptop while she is here? She is coming for the whole weekend. Wish me luck. In the brief 5 min conversation that she had with him about coming to visit, she has already mentioned that she has to "save up for a dress" for an upcoming family wedding.
